She did what she could; do we?

"She (Mary) hath done what she could."

During my scripture reading this morning, I was struck with that line, "She did what she could do."  then, asking myself, will Christ say this of me too.   This line also fits a saying heard occasionally church.  "One life will soon be pass; only what is done for Christ will last."

One needs to analyze their  motivation and assess what and why they do what they do.  Allow that line to resonate within the stirring of the soul and a tug on your heart strings.   After praying, and studying this marvelous gift of love and allegiance anyone can understand and see the core of Mary's person hood; Christ Jesus.

At times I think, "What can I give my Lord/"  Can He use me?  Will He use me?  What is wrong with these questions?  It is all about me rather than Christ!   They focus on service, but the act of Mary was more than service, more than cost, more than the derogatory remarks made, for without measuring her worth, value, her mind was stayed on giving ALL she could give.  She anointed Christ, she placed herself, without counting the cost, she fixed her vision on her Lord rather than on the situation on which lead to ridicule and misunderstanding

Another woman, like Mary, God has allowed me to know and love is in a tough situation humanly speaking.  She, like Mary, has given what she could.  A godly wife and mom.  I doubt if she looked and asked what can I give my Lord.  She gave her heart to her Lord, husband and the people they minister too.  She is a trooper, having gone through some tough medical situations herself and her mate. Now, a new journey of a medical challenge has come forth.  I love this couple and tear up when I see what they are facing; but they face it together with their Lord.  A strand of three cords is not quickly broken.  All my love and prayers are with you both always.

So, I ask myself, what can I give?  Any  body part that is still healthy and functioning that would allow her to overcome this new testing.  Now, I see dimly what Mary did, she did what she could.  Christ does not call all of us to do big things.  Give what we can out of our deep love and reverence for Him and His own.

Well done Mary and thank you for this lesson.  Christ believed your gift was to memorialized within Scripture for those who may be thick headed like myself.  Christ is our example to follow, and set up Mary as an example as well.  Not necessarily the act itself, but the heart behind the gift.

So, let us anoint Christ as our Beloved, kiss him with a kiss of affection; and anoint him as our Sovereign, kiss him with a kiss of allegiance.  Let us anoint Christ as our Beloved, kiss him with a kiss of affection; and anoint him as our Sovereign.  Christ must be honored with all we have, and we must not think to keep back any part of the price. Do we give him the precious ointment of our best affections? Let him have them all; love him with all the heart.

Did He pour out his soul unto death for us, and shall we think any box of ointment too precious to pour out upon him?   Now the scripture was fulfilled, When the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof, Cant. 1:12. (Matthew Henry Commentary)
Mark 14:9) This act of selflessness was an extraordinary display of respect paid him by a good woman that thought nothing was too good to bestow upon Christ, and to do him honor.
