I had not really thought about the Light of Christ being on a constant continuum until I was reading Acts 26:12-20.
Paul, as you probably remember was blinded by a Light brighter than the noon day sun. Have you ever stared at the sun? One, I believe could go blind from its light. The Light was so bright it blinded Paul. (Remember the Glory of God was too bright for Moses to see straight on as well, and God hid him in the cleft of the rock; Jesus stated in John's Gospel that He is the light of the world who came to dispel darkness.) Saul then heard a heavenly speaking.as though He knew Saul personally, for He knew His name and his deeds.
Jesus began this dialogue by interrogating Saul as to why he was persecuting Him. Jesus who always calls, a spade a spade, points to heart of the matter. Jesus said it was like Saul was kickimg at goads. Note: Walvood gives us insight into that saying by sharing,: "Paul wrote later that in spite of his blaspheming, violence, and persecution of the church he was shown mercy because he was acting in ignorance and unbelief (1 Tim. 1:13). Kicking the goads evidently referred to the futility of his persecuting the church"
Have you ever been in the dark long enough for your eyes to adjust to it? Well, I believe that is where Paul was at this time. It was spiritual darkness, which we all have or are experiencing, past and present. But, I digress however I will return to this thought.
Jesus went on to identify Himself to Saul, and interestingly enough there are two points to understand here. 1) Saul had not meant Jesus; so how could he be persecuting Him? 2) Saul somehow acknowledge Jesus as Lord. When one has been touched by the Hand of God one knows it. Jesus then calls Saul to the ministry to testify to what he had seen and what would be reveled to him. His calling was to the Gentiles. His commission was to 1. open their eyes, 2. turn them from darkness to light, 3. from the dominion of Satan to God. 4. receiving forgiveness, an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in ME. Paul, also declared he was not disobedient to the "heavenly vision."
I see a warning here for those of us who profess Christ. Our spiritual eyes can become accustomed to the darkness where we woefully ignorant, like Saul, or where we have not allowed or are unaware of some darkness still unaddressed in our being. Light dispels darkness. Are you, and I willing to ask the Holy Spirit to shine His Holy Light on any darkness in us?
This is where I believe the light continuum comes in, as the light exposes those areas of darkness are exposed to the light, we grow in the light. The Holy Spirit and the Word of God is always willing to shine on the unknown, unseen, or ignored darkness that might keep us from growing or have become our "invisible prisons."
In Isaiah 61, Christ came to release or set free the prisoner's held in darkness. In verse three of this passage, Christ says "then, they will be called the oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He will be glorified. A crown of beauty in the Hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the Hand of our God. Oh, what a special privilege to be His child! May we not this relationship for grated or mistreat, and abuse our position in Christ.
May the Light continuum continue to grow as His Light dispel the darkness which lives within our mind, and heart. For we are to turn from it; not ignore it, then may His Light shine through us even brighter for His glory.
Blessings on your heads and any other part of your body you need it to.
"Lord guide our steps, chose our joys, protect our name, guard our words, bless our work, and receive the glory. "
